THFC v MERSEA ISLAND : BORDER LEAGUE DIV 2 24/02/2018
NEWSFLASH : HEATH GOAL FEST SWAMPS MERSEA ISLAND
FULL TIME : THFC 14 – 1 MERSEA ISLAND
Heath followed up their superb 0-1 win over fellow title contenders Bures with a thumping 14 – 1
win over Mersea Island
With the first goal coming in the fourth minute and a firmer playing surface of late Heath were able
to play their stylish brand of quick fire passing. They went about their work with a certain swagger
whilst implementing their policy of winning back possession quickly and higher up the pitch.
Sublime one touch approach play and clinical finishing in front of goal led to Heath ending the first
half 7 – 0.
Three changes were made for the second half allowing a growing Heath squad to get minutes on
the pitch and evidently it was business as usual as Heath put away another seven. Their was a
consolation goal for Mersea Island as their centre back managed a fine forward run, ploughing
through the Heath midfield to release Sam knill Jones ( brother to Tiptree Heath’s own Ryan Knill
Jones ) to coolly slot home.
A stat to be proud of is that Heath have become the first team in the Essex and Suffolk Border
league to score over 100 league goals in 16 games in a season, conceding just 14.
Goal scorers were R Scillitoe 3, C Ward 2, C Green 2, T Turner 1, H Hazel 1, j Chesney 1, J
Chester 2 M Hawkins 1.
Congratulations to Ryan Scillitoe on his hat trick what with only having recently returned from a
long term injury.
And finally though Mersea Island are a much changed side featuring a lot of youngsters, to their
credit they never gave up and a special mention must go out to 20 year old Rory Green of the
Mersea Islanders who suffered the serious injury of a possible Brocken leg. All at Tiptree Heath
wish him a speedy recovery.
