Playing 4-4- 2
A new day dawns for THFC we are now official as the ball is kicked off at 3 pm on Saturday 27th August 2016. Two of our staunch supporters/committee members Derek Gurney and Lisa Bearne share their excitement on the touch line mouthing congratulations and sharing a hug …. I however stay primed and focused wishing I had a Reeter Skeeter magic pen to hand to keep up with the expectant action ! Ho hum !
Immediate early action sees a Cameron Ward tight angled shot skim off the crossbar after a free kick lofted in from outside the box. Joe Chester shoots from in the box, the ball spills loose but no one is there to prod it home. It’s all Heath at the moment and Cam Ward challenges an opposing player and Ryan Scillito shoots the resultant loose ball. Close !
9 mins We get another free kick and the ball falls to Kameron Dock to score, 0-1
12min A penalty to Bentley as the ref deems a push in the box. Bentley score and all of a sudden we are stunned at 1-1.
15 mins in the game is settling into a rhythm and Heath are making inroads with their possession and quick 1-2’s slicing open the Bentley defence with ease.
20 mins Good work from the ever present Olymbios allows the visionary Callum Hunt to switch the ball to the waiting Joe Chester on the far right. He drives forward unchallenged into the box and calmly rounds the keeper to make it 1-2.
23 mins Sucker punched ! Bentley score from a corner. Lee Greenwood protests that he is fouled but ref deems it’s by one of our players and again we lose out to a soft goal 2-2.
25 mins Cam Ward skins his man on the halfway line and thunders in on goal only to shoot narrowly wide.
30 mins Connor Brumpton dribbles in on goal, the ball spills loose for Cam Ward to pounce on the ball and hammer it home 2-3.
Team talk is spot on, we have let in soft goals whilst having a hatful of chances gone begging whilst getting caught out by Bentley countering us once we loose the ball. Can they out last us in the fitness stakes for the second half? I think not!
Play resumes in the second half with Jack Tolhurst on whilst Kam Dock is rested.Though no rest for his dad Colin Dock who is reveling in the roll of linesman with some serious good posing!
48 mins Heath pressure results in a good ball win by Joe Chester. Olymbios collects the ball in the six yard box and makes it 2-4.A minute later and neat one touch footy sees the ball crossed in from the right and Olymbios is there again to slot home 2-5. We are seemingly cruising now with the play being switched nicely;the ball is worked down the right with Joe Chester, is whipped across the six yard box -Scillito slots home 2-6. Callum Hunt is rested and Charlie Thompson goes on .
61 mins Our fitness shows and we are ruling the roost, chances are coming thick and fast with shots and crosses flying around everywhere !
69 minsOlymbios is rested and John Newman is on .
Jack Tolhurst is giving an assured display in central defense and shows superb vision with a pin point pass out of defense that falls perfectly onto the foot of the on rushing Ryan Scillito who is unlucky with a heavy touch and is unable to convert this time.
74 mins Heath are still pushing, Cam Ward has a shot which deflects off a defender and lobs over the goalie 2-7.
Charlie Thompson provides a super pass to Scillito 2-8 ! I can barely keep up! Thompson scores 2-9. Bentley are second best to everything! John Newman has a blistering shot and Cam Ward deftly reverse side foots it in on goal 2-10 .
They think it’s all over but not quite as Bentley lump the ball forward and they manage to out muscle us in defense and lob the ball over the despairing Lee Greenwood .
That’s it the final whistle blows and what a statement of intent from the Heath!
We gave away three soft goals but it’s been noted and team captain Michael Lamb is already saying that we need to up our game. That’s not surprising to hear coming from a team with ambition and intent. Congratulations to Cam Ward on a hat trick today . But can he surpass the task of bettering Ian Dobbins best ever start to a season of 32 goals . The bet is on between the two!
