Match report : Brantham FC v Tiptree Heath FC
Friday 29th July 7:45 ko
By Craig Campbell appointed Press Officer
Manager : Steve Chester , Assistant manager Ian Dobbins
4-4- 2 system
The Heath started brightly, moving the ball well with good movement off the ball and we quickly settled into a good rhythm, such that a goal seemed likely. It came soon enough. Callum Hunt, No 11, won the ball in midfield and the ball was passed around the box neatly finding Joe Chester who, squared the ball to Jamie Chesney to then set the ball dead and strike an excellent shot into the top left corner. 0-1 (8mins).
Heath were dominating possession and Michael Lamb in central defence was an assured presence clearing any Brantham threats that didn’t amount to much in any case.
A Heath corner resulted after 23 minutes . Max Hawkins attacked a good delivery into the box with a solid header but it flew wide having not quite got over the ball enough.
On 30 minutes an innocuous Tiptree Heath defensive back pass to our goalie Lee Greenwood, somehow bounced off his shin and scuttled its way to a lurking Brantham player that proceeded to lob the ball into the net. 1-1
Like all good teams, we gave an instant reply.Cameron Ward whipped in a low cross, Ryan Jones was unmarked in the 6 yard box and slotted in to make it 1-2 on 35 minutes.
Subs were made. On came John Newman No3, Louis Olymbios No2 and Charlie Abrehart Briggs
Play resumed and it’s business as usual with passing to feet and good movement.
On 50 minutes Louis Olymbios burst into the area,The ball seemingly bobbled off a Brantham defender to allow Louis a crisp strike to make it 1-3.
55 minutes sees a well crafted cross in from the right for LouisOlymbios to head it firmly into the top right 1-4
Brantham huff and puff and try to assert themselves but to no avail as John Newman makes himself known by winning the ball in midfield and quickly slotting it through to Cameron Ward who bore down on the keeper, and with great composure in front of goal, shimmied around the keeper and dispatched the ball into the net to make it 1-5 on 60 minutes.
Now thoroughly into our stride, Olymbios is causing havoc with his strength and mobility. The Brantham goalie makes a woeful half clearance and the ball is in the air, falling to Olymbios, only to hoof the ball way off target and into touch .
John Newman, working hard in the centre of the pitch, wins the ball and sends Joe Chester through to make an instinctive first time strike which is saved. Chances then come thick and fast and Brantham really are under the cosh. We are running the show with crisp passing culminating in John Newman shooting from 7 yards out, It’s a deft finger tip save by the keeper .
10 minutes to go and John Newman goes off having made a great contribution to the game.
Ryan Jones is put through clear on goal and strikes a rasping effort inside the right post where the keeper had no chance.1-6
Brantham are quite literally buckling under the pressure wrought by the Heath and a goal mouth scramble ensues, The ball bounces off the upright, a defender makes a panicked half clearance where we gain possession and the ball finds Jamie Chesney on the edge of the box to smash it home for 1-7.
Finally, that man Olymbios is in the right place and side foots in from 2 yards out for his hat trick and a final score of 1-8.
It was a welcome sight to see amongst the crowd our kind sponsor Richard Wheeler with his wife and daughter. We hope to see them as often as possible.
A beaming Steve Chester remarks that we would have given their first team a good game and I’m in no doubt that would be the case. Ian Dobbins is careful not to over praise the team and is right to do so. It is only a friendly but, on balance, I saw a team of talented players with a determined and workman like attitude an example being Connor ‘the machine’ Brumpton, who might yet go through brick walls for the team. These lads have been everything that I expected and I am now more enthused than ever to watch these guys perform and I hope to see all committee members make an effort to watch us in our first game of the season together with fans old and new alike .
